Doctor's Notes

Notes about Raw Feeding:

If your dog is already eating raw food great! You will only be needing to transition them from your original raw food diet to one of Dr. Evelyn's Raw Recipes.

*If your dog has never had raw food or their current food is kibble please read these notes before attempting a raw diet.*

While preparing raw meat, it is important to practice safe food handling techniques like washing hands before and after the handling and cutting of raw meats. Remember to always wash surfaces that come in contact with raw meat in hot, soapy water.

Additionally, your dog's food bowl should be washed in between every meal.

1. Make sure your dog is in good health.

~ If your dog has some health challenges, then a whole food diet is the next best step to improving their overall health. I generally recommend a cooked whole food diet rather than raw since a cooked diet is easier for a feeble immune system to handle.

2. Transitioning is soooo important!

a.) Is your dog on kibble?
~ If your end goal is to feed raw but your dog has never eaten raw much less whole food, then I would recommend first feeding the cooked versions of these recipes.

b.) Is your dog on a whole food cooked diet?
~ There are two transitioning options: either (1) prepare both a cooked and raw version of the diet and gradually transition by giving more and more of the raw recipe each couple days or (2) prepare the cooked diet but only cook the ingredients for 3/4 the regular time (feed for a couple of days) then decrease cooking time again to 1/2 the time and so on...

3. Know your dog's poop

~ If your dog experiences any soft stool, constipation or diarrhea during the transition, simply go back to the ratio of original food to new food that was not bothering them. Remain on that amount for a couple extra days before trying to increase the amount again.

~ Your dog's stool also may shrink in size. This is normal and expected when switching from kibble to a whole food diet. This is because your dog's body is able to absorb more nutrients from the food and therefore eliminates less of it. One of many perks when switching to healthier food!

Determining your dogs activity level:

Expert Relaxer:
Your pup probably enjoys sunbathing, belly rubs, sniffaris (sniffing safaris) but most of all naps!

It should be noted that dogs who enjoy these activities but have a higher metabolism may need to be fed more. If your dog is not maintaining weight then follow the Regular Walk Goer feeding guide.

Regular Walk Goer Recipes:
Your pup probably enjoys long games of fetch, day hikes, occasional dog sports but most of all walks!

It should be noted that dogs who enjoy these activities but have a lower metabolism may need to be fed less. If your dog is gaining weight then follow The Expert Relaxer feeding guide.

It also may be the case that your dog enjoys these activities but has a higher metabolism. These dogs may need to be fed more. If your dog is not maintaining weight then follow The Athlete feeding guide.

The Athlete:

Your pup probably enjoys being in the action, running for hours out of their day, doing their job but most of all helping you with as many tasks as possible!

It should be noted that dogs who enjoy these activities but have a lower metabolism may need to be fed less. If your dog is gaining weight then follow the Regular Walk Goer feeding guide.
